Glamping and the Tour De Yorkshire
Yorkshire is gearing up for the second annual Tour de Yorkshire cycle race on 29th, 30th April and 1st May.
This year’s pelaton takes in some of the most challenging Yorkshire landscapes and is bolstered by an inspirational programme of sport, art and cultural events running up to the race itself.
Yorkshire’s own Lizzie Armitstead, World Champion cyclist, will take part in the Asda Women’s Tour de Yorkshire on Saturday 30th April. The 136km route, starting from Lizzie’s hometown of Otley, takes in the challenging Day Two route to Doncaster. Fourteen women’s teams will compete in total, while the male riders have eighteen teams in the running. The full routes have now been announced and can be followed on the Tour De Yorkshire website and there will be coverage on ITV4 and Eurosport.

The Tour de Yorkshire is an international affair and holds a 2.1 European Tour UCI Classification, attracting cycling legends such as Sir Bradley Wiggins and Marcel Kittel.
This year’s race includes some steep climbs, narrow streets and seaside locations. The combined ascent over the three days is 5,535 metres, with the final stage including six King of the Mountain climbs. The event also has six exciting sprint points (when anything can happen), so it’s bound to be an edge-of-your-seat – or saddle – experience!
New for 2016 is the Tour de Yorkshire Caravan, which travels ahead of the race and visits key points along the route, stopping to give out gifts and entertain spectators.

The Tour passes very close to Clarion Lodge during Stage One (Beverley to Settle, 186km), and also Stage Two (Otley to Doncaster, 135km). Stage Three, which features the longest stretch of 198 km between Middlesbrough and Scarborough, passes close to Grouse Hill and Humble Bee Farm. These Yorkshire sites feature a mixture of Big Chief Wigwams, which sleep up to five guests, and Running Water Wigwams that include an en-suite toilet and washbasin. So you could enjoy watching the race, knowing you’ve got some of the most comfortable accommodation around to come back to!
