Six Sites with Cabins Big Enough for the Whole Family

For a child or a young family, there is so much to be gained from a holiday in the outdoors. Young ones get to take in the fresh air, disconnect from technology, and spend some quality time together. Little adventurers can find worms and spot wildlife or climb around the seaside. Older kids can learn to fish or go mountain biking. And at the end of the day, the whole gang can gather around a campfire and really spend some quality time together. These are the memories that last. 

At Wigwam, we believe these outdoor adventures are what makes life so good, and sharing them with the people you love is one of life’s greatest pleasures. In that spirit, we made a short list of our sites with family-sized, extra fun cabins. 

The large “Wigwam Grand” pods are big enough for five (two in the main queen-sized bed and three on the pull-out sofas), but the numbers are only limited by your imagination. Get a few families together in adjacent Grand pods for an unforgettable summer bash. Or get all the generations on one site for a massive family reunion!

1. Aberystwyth, Mid Wales

There are two Wigwam Grands on our Aberystwyth site, as well as one accessible Wigwam Grand. Aberystwyth has stunning views of the surrounding Rheidol Valley and forests with boatloads of great walks to go on. This family farm is a great place for kids to discover nature and animal life. Venture to the Devil’s Bridge Falls for a more forested experience, or to Cardigan Bay to try your hand at some dolphin- and seal-spotting. 

2. Cove Farm, East Lothian

Cove Farm has two Grands on their site overlooking the North Sea. These Wigwam Grand pods will be perfect for a family that loves to surf and lie in the grass. The nearby beaches make a splendid spot to take the little ones to explore the coast and build some sandcastles. If you have any aspiring nature-lovers in your flock, they’ll be pleased to take in all the surrounding wildlife and sunshine. 

3. Glenlivet, Cairngorms National Park

Glenlivet has a record six big Wigwam Grand pods available, as well as two accessible Grands! A "grand" total of eight. This forested site allows a cosy, nature-filled getaway for families looking to unwind. The lodges are also all in relatively close proximity to each other, making it the perfect place for multiple families or generations to go on a holiday together. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the Cairngorm National Forest, venture to the town down the road for sweets, and enjoy some family fun. 

4. Hafren, Mid Wales

Hafren has one big Wigwam Grand on their site, and it shares a beautiful expanse of soft green grass with their other six cabins. The site is set up on a charming working farm in the picturesque countryside of mid-Wales, and has great views of the surrounding Cambrian mountains. The set-up is absolutely ideal for a family game of football or rounders, followed by a fireside hang-out. Don’t forget the dog! They’ll love playing fetch in the field. 

5. The Loft, Morayshire

The Loft is in the stunning Moray Speyside and near great beaches, great history, and great forests. They have hot tub options available as well! The area is incredibly scenic and full of things to do. There is the opportunity to do some dolphin spotting, running, cycling, swimming, and everything in between. An active family will have a whale of a time at the seaside site. The towns nearby are chock-full of history, and the landscapes need to be seen to be believed. 

6. Wigtown, Dumfries & Galloway

Rugged moors and picturesque lochs are just a short drive away from our Wigtown site, and the area is full of outdoor activities and fun. Take the family walking, cycling, or running. There is so much nature to discover! But, for those of us with less of a drive for adventure and more of a sweet tooth, there is the Cream O’ Galloway Ice Cream Farm with adventure park and (of course) ice cream. If that’s not enough, the Cocoa Bean Co. is an actual chocolate factory! Sounds amazing!

It doesn’t all have to be family fun…

We’ve focused on the Lodges being big enough to fit the whole family, but that’s not all. Two couples or a large group of close friends would be just as comfy sharing the space. There’s a dining table, living room, kitchen, and large en-suite. So plenty of room to get whoever you want all on a holiday together!
