Why Go Glamping in the South West - Your Tour Itinerary

South West England offers a varied and beautiful setting for staycations of all kinds, from tranquil country walks to exploring seaside towns to trying out some adrenaline-boosting sports. Whatever you’re into, South West England has something for you!

In this article, we wanted to highlight the unique beauty of the South West and how great the region is for glamping in particular. To do this, we’ve compiled a tour itinerary for the region. You could tour all stops for a week or two, or simply choose one or two to visit for a shorter break. Let’s jump right in, shall we?

Start your staycation in Bristol

What better way to start your South West glamping tour than spending a day or four in the vibrant city of Bristol?

Before your escape to the country, take in some of Bristol’s best-loved attractions from historical sites like the Bristol Cathedral and Castle Park to cultural spots like the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery and funky street art along the city’s narrow side streets. Did you know that the world-famous Banksy is from Bristol?

Fancy an evening of theatre? Bristol is a great place for just that, with the Bristol Old Vic, The Redgrave Theatre and The Bristol Hippodrome putting on plays ranging from cutting-edge drama from young playwrights to West End smash hits.

At the end of a long day, you can retire to your comfy lodgings at the Bristol View Wigwams®, located just outside the city. Located on a hill within a former quarry, you get great views over Bristol and have easy access to the countryside around the city.

Glamping on the Somerset Coast

After taking in the city life in Bristol, head to the Somerset Coast. Here, you’ll find plenty to do for outdoorsy types, from rock climbing to hikes along the Quantock Hills AONB.

Fancy a way to take in the scenery without working up a sweat? Take a ride on the West Somerset Railway, the longest standard gauge heritage line in the UK. You can also take in the brisk sea air on a stunning walk along the South West Coast Path. It’s the longest of the UK’s National Trails, offering opportunities for anything from short walks to multi-day hikes.

Located in the heart of Quantock Hills and nestled within a vineyard, Secret Valley offers a tranquil home base for your Somerset adventures. Here, you’ll find 17 Wigwam® cabins as well as hot tubs, farm tours and a range of outdoor activities.

Dartmoor National Park & the North Devon Coast

Next, head to Devon for some new adventures. The area is great for watersports, with plenty of hidden wild swimming spots as well as opportunities for sailing. You can also learn to surf on the coast!

Meanwhile, Dartmoor National Park offers stunning scenery made up of rugged moorlands. Here, you can try out activities like walking, cycling, climbing and horseback riding.

The area is also dotted with market towns and quaint little villages where you can sample some delicious seafood from award-winning pubs to Michelin Star restaurants. Make sure to head for a cream tea for a taste of Devon before your next stop!

When it comes to glamping in Devon, you can’t go wrong with the Wigwams® at Larkworthy Farm. Located halfway between Dartmoor and the North Cornish coast among rolling hills, it’s the perfect location for a South West getaway.

Cornwall from Tintagel to Mevagissey

To finish off your glamping tour of the West Country, head on deeper into beautiful Cornwall and choose between the North and South Coast. Both offer stunning scenery and plenty of walks, cute villages and sites of historical interest.

North Cornwall

On the northern side, you can visit the legendary Tintagel Castle of Arthurian lore as well as the seemingly endless beaches perfect for sunning as well as watersports like surfing and bodyboarding. You can even catch a glimpse of dolphins, sharks, whales and rare birds on the coast!

On the North Coast, we’d recommend you stay at Wigwam® Holidays Great Tregath, located just outside the picturesque town of Camelford and within easy reach of both Tintagel and Bodmin Moor.

South Cornwall

On the southern side of Cornwall, you’ll find more stunning beaches as well as coastal towns and villages boasting local charm.

St Ives is a popular summer destination for art lovers, while the fishing village Mevagissey is home to a darling museum and aquarium as well as The Lost Gardens of Heligan. The latter is Europe’s largest garden restoration project combining Victorian charm with subtropic jungle features. In Mevagissey you’ll also find your perfect South Cornwall glamping site, Wigwam® Holidays Bodrugan.
