Sandy Bay Croft 

Sandy Bay Croft Wigwams, Na Bothain (Scottish Gàidhlig- huts) are set on a working croft in the picturesque Hebridean village of Scarista on the West coast of the Isle of Harris, an area which is world-renowned for its beauty and untouched habitats. We have two Deluxe Wigwam, Cabins which are ideally situated for nature and adventure enthusiasts, or for those looking for romance or a unique and memorable family glamping experience.

Our Wigwam, cabins are perfectly positioned on the main A859 Tarbert-Leverburgh spinal route, offering the ideal base for families, surfers, bikers, cyclists, hikers, hill climbers, kayakers, as well as those taking a day trip to St Kilda, or photographers and artists wishing to capture and create stunning late night or early morning images.

Spend the day exploring the dramatically diverse landscapes, fascinating history, heritage and wildlife the Isle of Harris has to offer. Return to one of our cosy Wigwam, cabins to relax, recharge and reconnect. Barbeque some of the freshest seafood and meat the Hebrides has to offer and spend the evening sitting by your own personal fire pit in one of our drystone mini Brochs. Witness one of the most spectacular moments of the day; the sky transforming into a kaleidoscope of colours as the sun sets and sinks into the Atlantic. On a cold winter's night; experience the cosy feeling of being warm and snug in your Wigwam,, whilst witnessing a spectacular phenomenon, as the Aurora Borealis creates a beautiful display of auroral arcs and parallel rays of colour dancing across the night sky.

Cyclists/ Hikers: Our Wigwam, cabins are the ideal place to spend the night if completing the Hebridean Way Cycle route or Walkway. Don’t worry about adverse weather, we have bike/ hiking gear storage and laundry facilities on site.

Families:  A travel cot, bedding, highchair and change mat and available so families can travel light, safe in the knowledge that everything you need for a fuss free, relaxing holiday will be waiting in your wigwam cabin when you arrive. We also have onsite laundry facilities - a must when holidaying with young kids. These are free but please let us know directly if you wish to book as we have limited availability.

Location: Na Bothain, Sandy Bay Croft Wigwams, 4 Scarista, Isle of Harris, HS3 3HX are on the main A859 road.  Our house is the white house with the stone dyke wall on the shore side.

(Scarista is often given in Gàidhlig- Sgarasta on local sign posts)

Arriving by Air - from Stornoway, with direct flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness.  Stornoway is about 51 miles from us by road.

Arriving by ferry/ road

Uig, Isle of Skye to Tarbert, Isle of Harris.  There is a car ferry crossing from Uig on Skye operated by Caledonian MacBrayne www.calmac.co.uk - we strongly recommend booking the ferry well in advance to secure a vehicle space.  Sandy Bay Croft is 12 miles South of Tarbert.

Ullapool, Scottish Highlands to Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, also operated by Caledonian MacBrayne. Sandy Bay Croft is 51 miles, about a 90 minutes drive, south of Stornoway on the A859.

From the Isle of Uist

There are two ferry crossings to Harris from Uist, both operated by Caledonian MacBrayne. Bernaray- Leverburgh, Isle of Harris and Lochmadday- Tarbert, Isle of Harris.  Sandy Bay Croft is 8 miles North on the A858 from Leverburgh
