This is a region of records - with Windermere as England's longest lake and Scafell Pike as its highest mountain - from which Snowdonia in Wales can be seen. The area has the largest number of red squirrels in England and red deer and the Peregrine falcon are also to be found amongst the 566,400 acres of England's largest and most popular national park.

There are numerous country shows and festivals to seek out, local specialities like Cumberland sausages and Grasmere gingerbread to sample and vibrant towns like Keswick and Ambleside to explore. Outdoor activities include hiking, kite surfing, zorbing, kayaking, mountain biking and mountain boarding. For young families, there are over 40 miles of child and buggy-friendly walks.

The connections of the region with literary celebrities like William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter is another reason many people come glamping here - it's also a great place to paint, having inspired many artists down the generations.
